South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) released a video on 4 January to dispute Japanese claims that a Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) destroyer had locked its fire-control radar onto a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Kawasaki P-1 maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) as it flew over the Sea of Japan (East Sea) on 20 December.

The release of the video comes exactly one week after Tokyo posted its own footage of the incident showing the P-1 flying on several occasions near KDX-I-class destroyer RoKN Gwang Gae To Daewang (pennant number 971) and Korea Coast Guard (KCG) offshore patrol vessel (OPV) Sambongho (5001).
