An Antonov An-26 transport aircraft belonging to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) crashed on 24 December after overshooting the runway at Beni Airport in North Kivu province, local media reported.

The aircraft was reportedly transporting troops from Kisangani to Beni when it crashed, resulting in 38 people being taken to hospital.

The troops had recently completed their training at Kitona and were being flown in to reinforce the FARDC deployment to counter the armed groups operating in North Kivu.
