The Hungarian Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) on 19 December to buy 44 Leopard 2 main battle tanks (MBTs) and 24 Panzerhaubitze (PzH) 2000 self-propelled howitzers (SPH) for over HUF160 billion (USD565 million).
According to Germany’s Die Welt daily, Hungary is buying the latest version of the MBT, the Leopard 2A7 as well as 12 second-hand Leopard 2A4s for training purposes, although Hungarian MoD sources did not confirm the latter.
