Thales teams with MSubs to develop UUV capabilities

18 December 2018

Thales has signed an agreement with MSubs to develop autonomous underwater capabilities, the first teaming related to a new facility that the former opened in Plymouth, UK, in October.

The GBP1 million (USD1.3 million) Turnchapel Wharf facility provides access to the Plymouth Marine Autonomous Range, which Thales will use to trial and development autonomous systems.

MSubs develops unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), which will be integrated with Thales' sensor suites for testing at the facility.

"This agreement is the first of many anticipated in the creation of a local ecosystem where Thales is investing in making Plymouth the centre for the development of UK maritime autonomy," Matt Hunt, maritime autonomous systems lead for Thales UK, said.
