The Indian Army (IA) is seeking to deepen its defence ties with the armies of about a dozen African countries by conducting joint training and military exercises with them in early 2019.
Official sources told Jane’s that the armies of Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Tanzania, among others, are expected to participate in the 10-day-long India-Africa Field Training Exercise (IAFTX), which is to be hosted by the IA from 18–27 March 2019 in Pune, western India.
Moreover, IA Chief of Staff General Bipin Rawat is expected to visit Tanzania and Kenya in late December to further enhance India’s defence co-operation with these countries.
