The US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has given notice of its intention to sole-source Boeing for the recertification and re-issue of UGM-84 Sub-Harpoon anti-ship missiles in a move that would pave the way for the re-introduction of the weapon to the US fleet.

This follows a successful UGM-84D missile live-fire demonstration from the US Navy (USN) Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Olympia in July 2018 as part of the 'Rim of the Pacific' (RIMPAC) 2018 exercise.

In a pre-solicitation notice issued on 3 December, NAVAIR advised that its Precision Strike Weapons Program Office (PMA-201) intends to enter into sole source negotiations with Boeing with the intention to award a firm fixed-price contract during calendar year 2019.
