Indian vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland and Israel’s Elbit Systems have signed a partnership agreement to collaborate on producing weaponised high-mobility vehicles for export customers, it was announced on 12 December.
Ashok Leyland said in a statement that under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) it will integrate Elbit Systems’ artillery guns and associated systems onto its own high-mobility vehicles. “The integrated systems are targeted for worldwide export markets,” it added.
Vinod K Dasari, the managing director of Ashok Leyland, said the partnership “underlines our capabilities of making and designing in India for the world. This step is also in line with our strategy of increasing contribution from our defence business, which will help us de-risk our overall business.”
