The Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) is planning to trial a new crewing concept for its Holland-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). The two-year pilot project, designed to give crews greater clarity in operational programming and consequent deployment requirements, will begin in the second quarter of 2019.
To support the project, one of the service’s four Holland OPVs, HNLMS Groningen , will deploy to the Caribbean region for the two years.
“The main purpose [of the project] is to provide clarity for crews to know when they are deployed and when they are back [home],” Commander Hugo Sinke, Groningen ’s commanding officer (CO), told Jane’s .
