Germany funds procurement projects as Bundeswehr grows further

The German Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced at the end of November that EUR250 million (USD283.5 million) would be invested in military modernisation programmes and that the Bundeswehr would grow to 203,000 troops in 2025.

On 28 November the budget committee of the Bundestag, the German parliament, approved several procurement projects exceeding EUR25 million each.

More than EUR93 million was approved to ensure the continuity of Image Intelligence Deep in the Deployment Area (the System für die Abbildende Aufklärung in der Tiefe des EinsatzGebietes: SAATEG) interim solution using Heron 1 unmanned aerial systems leased from Israel, including EUR49.4 million until the end of May 2020 for its deployment in Afghanistan and EUR43.8 million for its deployment in Mali until the end of July 2020.
