The final two Israeli-built Shaldag-class Fast Patrol Boats (FPBs) – Timbu (GC-197) and Toba (GC-198) – arrived by ship to Argentina in late November.
The two vessels are part of a four-boat buy under a USD49 million contract signed in 2016 by Argentina and Israel. The other two boats, Guarani (GC-195 ) and Mataco (GC-196), are already in service.
The four FPBs will be used by the Argentine coastguard (Prefectura Naval Argentina: PNA) to patrol the vast network of rivers that serve as borders between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay and combat narcotics-smuggling and human- and merchandise-trafficking.
