Plans to run down the UK’s main armoured vehicle maintenance and storage depot have been halted, following the announcement by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) of investment plans to expand the site at Ashchurch in Gloucestershire.
The GBP101 million (USD130 million) investment will fund the building of additional infrastructure at Ashchurch in support of the return of vehicles from Germany, under the Army 2020 reorganisation plan.
Details of the plans were revealed in the DIO’s 2018–19 Procurement Plan published on 8 November. The DIO is now in the process of developing its plans for the project and says it hopes to issue tenders for “Vehicle Storage and Support Programme Works” in the third quarter of 2019.
