Bahrain signs for AH-1Z attack helos

15 November 2018

Bahrain has confirmed the procurement of 12 Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters to augment its fleet of recently upgraded AH-1 Cobras.

A deal for the new helicopters was reported at the Bahrain Airshow on 15 November, six-and-a-half months after the US State Department approved the sale.

As noted by the US Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) in April, further to the 12 AH-1Z helicopters Bahrain is to acquire Lockheed Martin AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and BAE Systems Advance Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) II guided rockets, as well as Thales' TopOwl helmet-mounted display system.

The estimated value of the deal is USD911.4 million, with media reports suggesting the helicopters will be delivered in 2022.
