Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) signed a framework contract on 8 November with TR Motor on the development of indigenous engines for the Turkish Fighter Experimental (TF-X) Milli Muharebe Uçaği (National Combat Aircraft, MMU), planned to be produced in co-operation with BAE Systems.
“Our national aircraft will fly with an indigenous jet engine,” SSB tweeted on 8 November.
Turkey aims to design, develop, and create testing infrastructure for turbofan engines for the MMU while acquiring capabilities and technologies for different projects, it said.
It is not clear whether the Rolls-Royce-Kale Group TAEC Aircraft Engine Industry Corporation, the only remaining bidder for the TF-X engine production tender, will build the engines.
