The UK Ministry of Defence and the Defence Growth Partnership (DGP) have granted funding to four companies to enable them to complete development of several disruptive technologies under the final phase of the Innovation Challenge.
It will facilitate the further development of technologies including autonomy, artificial intelligence, and big data, with the four teams receiving a combined investment of about GBP4 million (USD5.15 million) from the MoD and GBP6 million from industry partners.
The winners of the awards are Close Air Solutions with the its Hyper Real Immersion project; QinetiQ and its software-defined multifunction Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging (LIDAR); Horiba Mira and its unmanned ground vehicle localisation and perception technology that uses deep learning neural networks; and Polaris' Ants on Deck autonomous software for unmanned surface vehicles.
