Luca Peruzzi, Paris - Jane's Navy International
26 October 2018
France has joined an Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d'Armement (OCCAR)-led Logistic Support Ship (LSS) programme to meet its national FLOTLOG (Flotte Logistique) requirement for four new multirole afloat support vessels
The head of France’s Direction générale de l’armement (DGA), Joël Barre, and his Italian counterpart General Nicolò Falsaperna, signed a bilateral agreement on 24 October for the construction of the four ships. French Minister of Defence Florence Parly, and her Italian counterpart Elisabetta Trenta also attended the signing.
The FLOTLOG programme aims to replace the French Navy’s three remaining Durance-class single-hull replenishment ships, which were commissioned between 1983 and 1990.
