UK fast jet pilots are to start training in the United States next year as part of a drive by the Royal Air Force (RAF) to clear a backlog in its pilot training organisation.
The move to send 14 student fast jet pilots to the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) programme at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas follows a decision earlier this year to contract L3 Commercial Training Solutions at Bournemouth, in Dorset, to train 100 RAF multi-engine aircraft pilots.
A senior RAF source confirmed the decision to send pilots to the ENJJPT to Jane's on 22 October, saying that the first pilots would arrive next year.
