Brazil narrows corvette choices

19 October 2018

The Brazilian government has selected four industry teams to progress to the next stage of the navy's corvette replacement programme.

Four general-purpose Tamandaré-class corvettes will initially be acquired by the navy's programme management directorate, which has down-selected four teams from the nine bids that it received in June 2018.

These are Águas Azuis, formed of Embraer and TKMS; a Damen-Saab Tamandaré team; FLV from Fincantieri and Vard; and Villegagnon, comprising Naval Group and Enseada.

The navy says that the evaluation of the proposals submitted and the subsequent decision making followed best practices of public governances, adding that all assessments considered the technical offerings and the interests of the navy.
