Harris is moving forward with the initial production order of its AN/PRC-163 two-channel radio, also known as the Leader Radio, for the US Army while also eyeing a full-rate production order from the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in the coming months.
In late September, the army ordered 1,540 AN/PRC-163 two-channel handheld radios and associated equipment from Harris. Speaking with Jane's just before the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) exhibition held from 8 to 10 October in Washington, DC, President of Harris Communication Systems Division Dana Mehnert said the company is moving out with Leader Radio production for the service and anticipates delivering the low-rate production buy in June 2019.
