The Portuguese Army will receive 139 VAMTAC ST5 light tactical armoured vehicles (Viatura Tática Ligeira Blindada: VTLBs) starting in 2019.
The EUR60.8 million contract between the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and Spanish vehicle manufacturer URO Vehículos Especiales (UROVESA) was signed in July, the Portuguese Army told Jane’s on 8 October. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed in 2020.
In addition to 107 troop carriers, the order comprises seven command post, 13 medical evacuation, and 12 special operations vehicles.
UROVESA was selected over Turkish company Katmerciler. The original plan was to acquire 167 4×4 vehicles, including 29 anti-tank platforms: 20 with Milan and 9 with TOW 2 missile systems.
