The US Army has nearly finalised a plan to develop Assured Position, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) for vehicles, and is also drafting a plan for dismounted APNT.
Willie Nelson, director of the US Army’s Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Cross-Functional Team, noted that the service struggled for years to define requirements for its PNT System of Systems Architecture (SoSA) programme, and has since stopped that effort. Trying to address APNT as an overall solution was “too big and broad of a problem”, Nelson said. Instead the army has focused on more specific systems.
It started by drafting a ‘capabilities development document’ for APNT on mounted systems.
