The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is to procure new-build and remanufactured Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters under a contract awarded to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) on 5 October.
The USD242.1 million award covers the purchase of nine new-build AH-64E Apache Guardians and the remanufacture to the same standard of eight AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopters by the end of February 2023.
The UAE Ground Force (UAEGF) currently fields 28 AH-64D Apaches. In December 2016 the US government announced that it had approved the sale of the new and remanufactured Apaches to the UAE as part of a wider USD7.01 billion military helicopter package for the Middle East.
