Contracts expected to total more than GBP1 billion (USD1.3 billion) have been awarded to three UK shipyards for the support of Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) afloat support ships and Royal Navy (RN) survey vessels.
The 10-year contracts, awarded by the Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) Defence Equipment and Support organisation under the umbrella of the Future In-Service Support (FISS) programme, cover spares, repairs, and maintenance support for 17 ships through to June 2028. The MoD estimates that the new arrangements, underpinned by a robust set of performance measures, will realise savings of more than GBP100 million through the adoption of new support solutions and improved performance targets.
