The Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare Italiana: AMI) completed operational testing of the Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM) on its Tornado Electronic Combat and Reconnaissance (ECR) aircraft at the Naval Air Warfare Center at China Lake in California, the missile's manufacturer, Northrop Grumman, announced on 4 October. This will enable the AARGM to enter service with AMI operational squadrons, the company added.
The Tornado ECR is the fourth operational aircraft using AARGM.
Italy signed a memorandum of understanding with the US in 2005 on the co-operative development of the AGM-88E AARGM, with the US Navy as the executive agent for the programme.
