Russia ignores Bulgarian Su-25 overhaul tender

Belarus's 558 Aircraft Repair Plant is the only bidder for a Bulgarian Ministry of Defence tender for the general overhaul of 14 Su-25 close air support aircraft and 28 R-95Sh turbofans after the only other company invited, Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, did not respond.

On 28 September, Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov rejected a Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (KNSB) demand two weeks earlier that the Plovdiv-based Avionams aircraft repair plant be involved, at least as a subcontractor, pointing out the company has not overhauled Su-25s since 2001.
