US company Arnold Defense announced that the Fletcher 2.75 inch/70 mm weapon system has gone into low-rate initial production.
In a press release dated 13 September the company said it was working on the initial production run of the Fletcher launcher system and that the first one was to be delivered shortly. The company declined to disclose the recipient or how many were being built.
Arnold Defense previously announced in June that the first successful test firing of the Fletcher system had taken place, where it achieved a 100% target hit rate at ranges from 2–5 km.
Speaking to Jane’s at DVD 2018 in Millbrook, Jim Hager, Arnold Defense president and CEO, said that the initial product would not use GPS technology to give the system an indirect fire capability, but that it was part of the system’s future roadmap.
