German exports to Middle East countries revealed

21 September 2018

The German government has authorised the sale of counter-battery radars to Saudi Arabia, air defence systems to Egypt, long-range air-to-air missiles to Qatar, and anti-tank weapons to Jordan, the German newspaper Rheinische Post reported on 19 September.

Citing a letter sent from the federal minister of economics to the Bundestag’s Economics Committee, it said the approvals include the sale to Saudi Arabia of four vehicle-mounted radars for locating sources of enemy fire: a possible reference to the COBRA system made by the Euro-Art International consortium that includes the German company Hensoldt and is in service with the militaries of Germany, France, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United Kingdom.
