The fast attack craft (FAC) Vukovar has become the first Croatian Navy vessel to take part in a NATO operation. The FAC left Croatia on 3 September for a week’s stint in NATO Operation ‘Sea Guardian’ in the Mediterranean.
This was also one of a very few times that a Croatian ship has left the Adriatic Sea. The naval group left the Italian port of Taranto on 5 September for training and then headed to the central Mediterranean where it provided sensor data on the local maritime situation to NATO’s Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) in Northwood, UK.
Approval to participate in the Italian-led operation was given by the Croatian government on 27 June and by its parliament on 6 July.
