Saudi Arabia has cut its order for General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) LAV 8?8 armoured vehicles, Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) News reported on 10 September.
It cited internal company documents from March 2017 as saying that only 742 LAV-6 vehicles were going to be delivered to the kingdom instead of the 928, including 119 with 105 mm guns, that were initially ordered under a deal announced by the Canadian government in 2014. The documents indicated the delivery of the vehicles has been under way for months.
The Canadian government told the UN Register of Conventional Arms that it exported 38 armoured vehicles to Saudi Arabia in 2016 and another 52 in 2017, but it did not identify the type, which could be other types such as Terradyne Gurkhas, which are used by Saudi Ministry of Interior forces.
