Canberra has approved a project valued at up to AUD1 billion (USD712 million) over 13 years to enhance and continuously improve the equipment used by Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.
Minister for Defence Christopher Pyne said in a 7 September statement that the Integrated Soldier Systems project is designed to deliver a range of items “to ensure our personnel continue to meet emerging threats, are less detectable, less susceptible to enemy attacks and able to fight longer and more effectively in challenging conditions”.
“We’re taking a flexible approach here, investing up to AUD240 million between now and 2023, with the flexibility to update and change things as technology develops into the future,” said Pyne.
