The Brazilian Army has acquired 120 M2A1 .50 cal heavy machine guns (HMGs) through the US government’s Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process. A letter of offer and acceptance (LOA) for the newly manufactured weapons was signed in August by the Brazilian Army Commission in Washington (on behalf of the army’s Logistics Command) and the US government.
Sixty machine guns are scheduled for delivery in 2019 and the remaining 60 in 2020, the army told Jane’s on 11 September.
Tripod mounts, spare parts and additional barrels are included in the deal, with training to be provided to Brazilian personnel after the guns are delivered.
