Qatar is building a new airbase to be named after Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani as well as expanding its two existing airbases, the deputy commander of the Qatari Emiri Air Force (QEAF) has announced.
The Qatari media reported on 27 August that Major General Ahmed Ibrahim al-Maliki had said in an interview published by a military magazine that Tamim Air Base is being built as part of the wider programme to develop the QEAF.
He added that Al-Udeid Air Base will be expanded and Doha Air Base will be developed so they can accommodate the new aircraft ordered for the QEAF, which include Dassault Rafale, Boeing F-15, and Eurofighter Typhoon fighters.
