The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 9 August that the US Department of State has approved an estimated USD41 million Foreign Military Sales (FMS) package of eight Raytheon RIM-162 Evolved SeaSparrow Missiles (ESSMs) to Mexico.
The prospective FMS package includes six RIM-162 ESSMs and two ESSM telemetry rounds, as well as one MK56 VLS launcher (eight cell), eight K30 canisters, and eight MK783 shipping containers, in addition to spare parts.
The ESSMs will equip the Mexican Navy’s future Long-Range Ocean Patrol (Patrullera Oceánica de Largo Alcance: POLA) frigates, which are the Mexican variant of Damen Shipyard’s Sigma-class frigates.
