Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on his Facebook page on 4 August that the North Atlantic Council, NATO’s highest decision-making body, had approved funding for the modernisation of Kuçovë airbase in Albania.
In partnership with Albania, NATO would invest more than EUR50 million (USD57.8 million) in the first phase of modernising the airbase, situated 60 km south of Tirana, which would support NATO air transport, logistics, air policing, and training, he said.
A NATO official confirmed the plans and said the investment would go towards improving the airbase’s infrastructure, including fuel storage.
