Brazil releases design details for new patrol boat

06 August 2018

Brazilian state-owned Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais (EMGEPRON) intends to issue a local tender soon for building one NPa500BR patrol boat for the Brazilian Navy, worth around USD40 million, using the recently locally established Merchant Marine Fund that provides funding to vessels and shipyards.

EMGEPRON and the navy are waiting for final official government funding approval before awarding any contracts or fixing a schedule for the work. However, EMGEPRON has released the first details for the ship design and roles.

The boat is designed to provide extended maneuverability, due to a Schottel bow thruster, Rolls-Royce active stabliser, and bilge keels.
