Delivery of 33 Russian-designed 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence (MoD) was completed at the end of June, Excalibur Army, a Czech defence company specialising in refurbishing former Eastern bloc surplus land systems which supplied the artillery, has confirmed.
“The systems were obtained [as surplus stock] from the armed forces of a European country,” Excalibur Army spokesperson Andrej Cirtek informed media on 29 July, without giving the value of the contract.
Part of the Czechoslovak Group defence holding company, Excalibur Army exported the Gvozdika SPHs to the Ukrainian MoD via Wtórplast, a Polish company with a valid licence to export the systems to Ukraine.
