US Naval Special Warfare targets precision engagement capability

31 July 2018

The US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is looking to equip Naval Special Warfare (NSW) combatant craft with a Maritime Precision Engagement (MPE) capability to defeat asymmetric threats on land and at sea.

Giving a briefing on 23 May at the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) in Tampa, Florida, Captain Kate Dolloff, Programme Executive Office – Maritime, said the MPE is “a family of standoff, loitering, man-in-the-loop weapon systems deployed on Combatant Craft and capable of targeting individuals, groups, vehicles, high value targets, and small oceangoing craft with low collateral damage”. The requirement was formally validated by USSOCOM in March this year.
