Farnborough 2018: Potential UK BMD radar suppliers start to break cover

Farnborough International Airshow has provided insights into the responses by industry to the United Kingdom’s requirement for a ground-based ballistic missile defence (BMD) radar.

The UK government committed to investing in a ground-based BMD radar within its 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review. A request for information (RFI) for the system was issued by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) in June 2017, with an expectation that the radar would enter service in the mid-2020s.

Noted by Jane’s at Farnborough was an advert placed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in one of the show dailies featuring the Spectra S-band BMD radar made by the company’s Elta subsidiary.
