The US Marine Corps (USMC) has proven out its forward amphibious assault vehicles’ (AAVs’) maintenance capabilities during coastal assault operations conducted as part of ‘Rim of Pacific’ (‘RIMPAC’) 2018 .
As USMC AAV drivers and crew were getting ready to transport Canadian troops through the surf on 13 July for a mock amphibious assault, all three of the vehicles needed to make the run were declared temporarily out of commission. The units had to wait for the previous assault team’s AAVs to return to complete the amphibious drills at Red Beach near Camp Pendleton.
“Last night we had rapid requests coming in and they were working all night to get these running,” he said.
