The US ambassador to the Netherlands has signed a defence agreement with his Dutch counterpart in Washington, DC, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in The Hague has announced. The ministry reported on 2 July that US Ambassador Pete Hoekstra and Dutch Ambassador Henne Schuwer signed an agreement to reinforce their countries' partnership regarding military materiel and operations.
The agreement covers the exchange of personnel such as pilots, liaison officers, and technicians and sharing information on new systems. The Dutch MoD said this was important for the Dutch upgrade of its Chinook and Apache helicopters, acquisition of Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles, replacing its submarines and frigates, and for co-operation on missile defence.
