On 30 June, Russian Deputy Defence Minister Alexei Krivoruchko signed the contract for the supply of the first 12 Su-57 PAK FA jet fighters, Russian media reported.
The fifth generation multirole fighters developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau will be built at the Yuri Gagarin Aircraft Plant (KnAAZ) at Komsomolsk-on-Amur, in the country’s far east, “without delay”. At the factory signing ceremony, Krivoruchko described the aircraft as “the ideal choice” and the US F-35 as “incomparable” to the Russian aircraft.
United Aircraft Corporation president Yuri Slyusar has stated that the first batch will be delivered to the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces (VKS) during 2019.
