Four French soldiers were wounded and two VBCI infantry fighting vehicles seriously damaged in an attack carried out in Mali’s Gao province on 1 July.
The attack reportedly involved a suicide vehicle bombing against a joint Malian-French patrol near the town of Bourem.
Photographs and video of the aftermath showed the two VBCIs burning, while news agencies cited French Army and Malian officials as saying that four civilians had been killed and at least 30 other people injured, including four French soldiers.
