USMC trials Harvest HAWK upgrade

02 July 2018

The US Marine Corps (USMC) has completed a five-week period of developmental and integrated test (DT/IT) live fire testing using a KC-130J Hercules aircraft configured with the Harvest Hercules Airborne Weapons Kit (HAWK) Plus (HH+) roll-on/roll-off precision strike mission package.

Front-line utilisation of the new modifications to Harvest HAWK is anticipated in Fiscal Year (FY) 2019.

First deployed in October 2010, the Harvest HAWK package provides Marine Air Ground Task Force commanders with a platform capable of providing persistent multi-sensor imagery reconnaissance (MIR) and on‐call close air support (CAS) in low threat scenarios. The kit provides the capability for the KC-130J to deliver precision fires using either the AGM-114 Hellfire missile or the Griffin and Viper Strike Standoff Precision Guided Munitions.
