Turkish and US troops began co-ordinated patrols along the demarcation line north of the Syrian city of Manbij as the first step in a de-escalation agreement, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on 18 June.
“Co-ordinated independent patrol activities by Turkish and coalition forces began 18 June,” CENTCOM said. “Both parties are continuing to plan for combined patrols, with a commitment to increase co-operation based on conditions on the ground.”
It was announced on 5 June that the United States and Turkey had agreed the plan to address the latter’s concern about the presence of Kurdish fighters from the US-backed People’s Defence Units (YPG) in the area.
