India’s Reliance commits to composites investment

Indian energy group Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is setting up an entity to produce carbon-fibre composites for aerospace and defence, the group announced in its annual report published on 15 June.

According to RIL, the new enterprise – Reliance Composites Solutions (RCS) – will be the largest of its kind in India. “RIL is investing in India’s first and largest carbon-fibre production line with its own technology to cater to India’s aerospace and defence needs as well as the specialty industrial applications,” the report said.

RIL said the composite market in India is worth more than INR300 billion (USD4.4 billion) and “is growing rapidly”.
