RUAG feels pinch in Aviation, Defence

29 May 2018

Switzerland’s RUAG has announced that it will be closing one of its Aviation business facilities and cutting jobs in the Defence division due to a changed market environment.

According to the company in a statement on 28 May, “insufficient capacity utilisation and expiring maintenance contracts” had caused RUAG Aviation to decide to close its operation at Bern-Belp Airport at the end of September. A key part of the decision was the non-renewal of service contracts for the Dornier 328 passenger aircraft, with efforts to gain new business not enough to offset the loss of the service contracts.

As a result, 22 employees are to be offered alternative jobs in Switzerland.
