India has set up a task force to support the country’s growth as a major developer of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for defence and security applications.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on 21 May that the ‘AI task force’ would introduce a roadmap for development and make recommendations to support India becoming “a significant power of AI in defence, specifically in the areas of aviation, naval, land systems, cyber, nuclear, and biological warfare”.
In drawing up AI development plans, the MoD said the task force would seek to leverage India’s competitive IT industry and its large supply pool of engineers.
