A Philippine lawmaker has publicly condemned the reported landing of a People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) H-6K strategic bomber on a South China Sea island.
On 18 May, the official Twitter account of state-owned People’s Daily of China posted a video of what appears to be touch-and-go landings involving a single H-6 airframe at a runway “on an island reef at a southern sea area”. The location has since been identified as Woody Island, which lies approximately 107 n miles off the Vietnamese coast.
Manila is not a claimant to Woody Island, but the country has persistently raised concerns that a runway on the location could be used for offensive operations against Philippine territory.
