The Portuguese Navy is planning to put in service the fifth Standard Flex 300 (StanFlex 300) coastal patrol boat it acquired from the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO).
The navy is currently taking steps to obtain funding to modernise the ship with communications, navigation, and weapon systems and to carry out necessary maintenance and repair work, a navy spokesperson told Jane’s.
The fifth ship was acquired by Portugal in 2015 for EUR1.24 million (USD1.47 million) to serve as source of spares for a batch of four ships of the class purchased in 2014 for EUR4 million. However, as the first two ships have proven to be very reliable since entering service, the navy has decided to commission the fifth vessel as well, the spokesperson said.
