Australian Army’s SASR gets new headquarters, operations centre

11 May 2018

A new headquarters and operations centre have been opened for the Australian Army’s Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) at Campbell Barracks in Perth.

Minister for Defence Marise Payne said in an 11 May statement that the opening of the new facilities marked the completion of the first phase of an AUD223.5 million (USD169 million) four-year upgrade to the SASR’s home base at Swanbourne.

“The Campbell Barracks redevelopment is essential to ensuring that Australia’s special operations forces are ready to respond to support Australia’s national interests,” said the minister, adding when all works are complete in 2019, SASR personnel “will have the modern, flexible, purpose-built facilities and infrastructure needed to support the unit’s vital national mission for the next 20 years”.
