The aircraft was photographed at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, on 12 April and open-source tracking of its transponder has shown it flying across Israel and Jordan towards the Iraq-Syria border area since 17 April.
The UK Ministry of Defence said that it “does not offer a running commentary on deployments/redeployments” of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance assets.
The United Kingdom contributed Sentinel R1s to the campaign against the Islamic State in 2015-2016 but the RAF was forced to retire one of the five aircraft in 2017, making it harder to maintain the deployment.
